Western Wall and Dome of the Rock

1990 expedition through Israel and Greece. The Western Wall, also referred to as the Wailing Wall, is a sacred Judaic site. It is the remnant of the 2nd Temple, restored by Hadrian, but destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D. The Dome of the Rock was built over the rock upon which Abraham laid Issac in preparation to sacrifice him. The rock is sacred to Jews and Muslims, for it is also from this rock that legend has it Mohammed ascended to heaven.
